Off to Philly
December 7, 2007
I’m headed to Philly and back today! I’ll post a whole day’s recap tonight – that is if my plane isn’t delayed until tomorrow or something crazy!
See you all then, and wish me luck making good choices in airports and restaurants!

Hey all!
I found an awesome website with incredible looking recipes all light and diet friendly. All of the nutritional values are posted and broken up into categories. The site is incredible easy to navigate and search for specific healthy recipe ideas or to just browse and get yummmy new ideas. The site also features a grocery-list generator based on the menus/meals/recipes that you select to make for the week…pretty cool! DEF. check this one out!

have fun in my cr@p-hole city! hope you find some yummy, healthy restaurants. farmicia in old city (3rd&market) has some interesting options. and get some dessert at capogiro gelato (all local ingredients, all hand made every night (13&sansom and 20&sansom).

Whew, what a busy week you’ve had! You’re doing great as always though, and giving me some great ideas for traveling at the end of the month! You could write a whole book on airport dieting

Hey Kath – I’ve seen a lot of lattes that look fabulous on your page. Can you recommend what brand / model you use?
Thanks!

We have a Krups coffee maker/espresso machine. Got it as a wedding present! Here it is:
http://www.krupsusa.com/All+Products/Coffee+Machines/Espresso+coffee+machines/Products/XP2070/XP2070.htm
When we have “lattes” what we’re really doing is brewing coffee, and topping it off with about 3oz of steamed milk. That’s not to say that we haven’t made a real latte with espresso, but that takes a little more time.
Which brings me to our only real criticism about the machine: it takes too long to use the machine because you can only do one action at a time, and by action I mean:
brew coffee
warm up the espresso maker
make espresso
warm up the steam arm
use the steam arm
I’m guessing that each of these requires most or all of the machine’s electrical capacity, so you can only do one. Also, the warming up of the espresso maker and the steam arm takes about 60 seconds- which doesn’t seem like much, but because you can’t be doing much else, you just stand there staring at the machine until the “ready” light pops up.
The other complaint I have is that the steam arm is activated by a button, not a dial that you turn to release steam. Somehow I feel like this contributes to the length of time it takes to warm up.
Despite all this, we’ve been pretty pleased with it.

Thanks for all the comments, guys!! Unfortunately I wont’ be dining here in Philly – I’m in and out in a day!
Elle, I think in order to write a book on healthy airport eating I’d have to visit the airports. That’s a lot of security lines I’d have to wait in
Hope you’re well!
Thanks, HK, I’ll check out that website!
Katie,
Hope the husband answered your question. It’s basically just coffee with steamed milk. You can buy a milk steamer thing that’s not attached to a coffee maker. I have seen then. Actually, maybe we should get one to solve the husband’s timing issues.
